Great information on the various cheap digital piano brands you can buy

Used Digital Piano

Buying a used digital piano is a great way to introduce your kids to the fantastic world of music whilst not breaking the bank.

You do need to take care when purchasing any piano though to make sure it suits your needs otherwise it will not be used.   Check out the instrument for any obvious signs of damage.  Bumps and scratches will be relatively easy to see but you also need to check for spillages.  Ideally you would examine every key and this will give you the opportunity to check that they all still work.  You do not want missing keys or clunky sounds whilst trying to play your masterpiece.

The keys on the better models have a graded hammer action which means that the keys play heavier on the bass side, getting lighter to touch as you move up the keyboard.  Heavy handed practice can ruin this graded action so it is best to check this as well when you are checking the keys.

Digital pianos used music samples to produce piano sounds.  For example the Roland models are based on a Steinway piano.  Usually the more expensive models use better quality sounds but this is not always the case. And when you buy a secondhand piano you want to make sure that the previous owners have taken care of the instrument.

You should turn the speakers up to full volume to see how the used digital piano sounds.  Then try turning off the speakers as any mechanical sounds will show up alerting you to a possible internal problem.

The other reasons for buying a used digital piano are probably the fact that they cost much less than the new models and obviously a whole lot less than the acoustic pianos.   Most people like to see if their child is a musical protegy before investing in the acoustic variety.

You can play your digital piano whenever you want even if you live in an apartment complex.  You simply plug in your headphones and only you will be able to hear your latest musical masterpiece.

A digital piano gives you more varieties of sound than a normal piano.   You can have built in rythmn and backing sounds whilst also the ability to switch between the instrument sounds i.e. you could sound like you were playing a guitar or a bass instrument.

For the computer geeks amongst us you can wire up your used digital piano to other electronic music devices as well as downloading lessons and music material from the internet.

One consideration when deciding which type of piano you should purchase is space.  Where are you going to store the unit?  If you are looking to travel with your digital piano then obviously a portable version is a neccessity.  If you plan on holding concerts or other musical entertainment you may wish to consider getting a stage version.

Whatever type of used digital piano you choose make sure you do thorough checks and are fully satisfied before parting with your cash.
